VCSPrep/VC Star League Ranking: 4
Nickname: Chargers.
Coach: Jeff Uyesaka.
2008 record, league finish: 3-7, sixth.
2008 playoffs: Did not qualify.
Top returning players: Zack Boytis, Sr., QB; Shane Taylor, Sr., LB/FB; Branden Tangle, Sr., WR/DB; Anthony Houston, Sr., RB.
Outlook: The Chargers return several key skill position players in Boytis, Tangle and Houston. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Boytis is a strong-armed passer who doubles as a linebacker and won’t be brought down easily. Taylor is the leader of the defense as the returning middle linebacker. But it could be the offensive line that dictates the success. If the line can open holes for Houston and give Boytis time in the pocket, Dos Pueblos could be bound for the playoffs.
Quote: “We have a great group of hard-working athletes and we are very optimistic about what they can do on the field this year. We hope to compete with some of the tough teams in the Channel League.” — Dos Pueblos athletic director Dan Feldhaus
