Admiral's Cup Triathlon, June 5, 2010

Nearly 100 civilians and military personnel take part in the Admiral's Cup, held two hours before the Armed Forces Triathlon on June 5 at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu. The Admiral's Cup is a sprint triathlon, with a shorter swim, bike ride and run than the Armed Forces Olympic-style triathlon.

  • Dan Frost, who recently retired as a lieutenant commander at Naval Base Ventura County, transitions from bicycling to running during the Admiral's Cup Triathlon. Frost came in third with a time of 52:21.
  • Robert Sumpter, 61, is accompanied up the beach by Warfield Gym night manager Miguel Fernandez. Sumpter was the last Admiral's Cup contestant out of the water and the last to finish the triathlon with a final time of 2:15:26.
  • Christopher Baird of Westlake Village crosses the Admiral's Cup finish line first with a time of 50:24.
  • Peggy McDowell-Cramer, 69, competes in about nine triathlons a year and says the Admiral's Cup is her favorite. 'I feel really safe here,' she says of the base.
