Rumors have swirled about Claim Jumper restaurant closing at The Lakes shopping center in Thousand Oaks for years.

On Monday, it happened.

A worker removed lettering from the building, and giant rolls of bubble wrap were outside the restaurant, which opened in late 2005 as one of the center’s original tenants.

A woman who answered the phone at Claim Jumper referred questions about the closure to parent company Landry’s Inc. The company also owns Mastro’s Steakhouse across the street from The Lakes.

Terry Turney, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Claim Jumper, said in an email that the restaurant closed to make way “for a new retail venture desired by the landlord.

“We are grateful for the approximately 10 years that the restaurant has served the local-area residents,” he said. “We value our employees, their work experience and dedication to our company and are working on relocating them to other Claim Jumper restaurants in the area, including the Claim Jumper located at 9429 Tampa Avenue in Northridge or another Claim Jumper location of their choice.”

Several employees who arrived at work Monday morning did not know the restaurant had closed.

Claim Jumper’s location will be the new home of Lassen’s Natural Foods and Vitamins store, Haider Alawami, Thousand Oaks’ economic development manager, said Monday morning. The market will move from its location on Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Skyline Plaza, he said.

A Lassen’s employee said she could not disclose any information.

Kloe Kmiec, General Manager of Caruso Affliated’s West Valley Portfolio, said the company is thrilled to welcome Lassens to the property. The health store is expected to open this summer.

“We expect Lassens to become a staple at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks,” she said in an emailed statement.

In December 2010, 86 jobs at the Thousand Oaks Claim Jumper were scheduled to end. On the day of the expected closure, the restaurant’s COO announced the eatery would remain open at The Lakes.

The company’s ability to keep the restaurant open was credited to a favorable renegotiation of the lease.

The 2010 announcement preceded the closing of Claim Jumper restaurants in Irvine, Fresno, Torrance and Industry, according to previous reports.

Just like the Ca GOP has lost patronage one at a time and is now on its way to being a 3rd party in Ca behind the DTS.

Only from the delusional disjointed point of view of a know nothing looney liberal.

There is nothing wrong with Lassens. They have great products and support living a healthy lifestyle. I do not believe they discriminate against anyone, they are committed to their religious beliefs, nothing wrong with that.

Their misinterpretation of the Bible causes them to discriminate by contributing thousands to discriminatory causes.

But it's their interpretation. And there's no war on religion....right?

And so it goes, some people will protest and not shop there. That's fine. That's their choice and right....correct?

There is freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc....but they should only apply if they are based on your same beliefs. Now that isn't the way it's supposed to be now is it?

Let's be a little more specific on the "dirt" surrounding Lassens. News to me. I shop there and have been satisfied. So, what is the issue?
Haven't been to this center in some time. Parking was less than optimal from what I recall.

misinterpretation of the Bible ?

OH WOW!! Of course your views of the bible are indisputable and above being misinterpreted.
Discriminatory causes are of course what you deem as discriminatory causes no doubt.

Left wing nutter hypocrisy knows no bounds, What happened to tolerance and understanding the Christian hater liberals are always spewing about others?

Be honest ,you hate Mormons.

You know when you go to Trader Joe's and your surrounded by libs? Lot's of old hippy dippy types thinking their cool shopping at Tj's? "oh look, I found 13 cheeses and 4 different gluten free crackers too!" Well you don't have to have that feeling. Shop at Lassen's and dispense with the libs. Great place for organic veggies for juicing, excellent supplement section and all else is just nice. Their locally owned unlike Tj's which is owned by German's over in Germany. Oh yeah and family values thrown in for free.

I don't have anything against Lassen's and shop at their Ventura store, and I really don't give a damn about the politics, same as I don't give a damn over the politics of Walmart. But really, isn't The Lakes supposed to be a super "upscale" kind of development? Seems like a weird location for a health food store. What's next for over there, Ross Dress for Less?

The Lakes needs to remove Claim Jumper from their website. Used to like to go there before or after performances at the Civics Art Center. Not interested in any of the restaurants that are left.

Trader Joes has in general lower prices and their employees appear to possess higher IQs.

All of the verses in the Bible which conservatives cite to promote discrimination were put in by King James. The original scriptures make ZERO mention of those verses or subjects.

Thus they are using quotes from a faked Bible to promote discrimination.

One assumes you have read the Mormon Bible and are versed in the Mormon version of biblical events and scriptures. Post those verses to validate, authenticate your view that Lassen Mormons promote discrimination.

You know the funny thing about people that shop at Trader Joe's are a bunch of clueless hypocrites. They are the ones so up in arms about Monsanto and GMO foods yet they shop at TJ's. Are they not smart enough to know that TJ gets it's packaged food from ConAgra? ConAgra gave millions to fight labeling genetically altered food. It's just sad cause it's like watching someone hit their face with the door when trying to enter then doing it over and over.

Not so,Lasson employees demonstrate a far higher level IQ then employees a Trader Joes.

Lassons is a specialty store where higher IQ people know they have special health food supplements and items not found at TJ's

Still waiting for you to post the verses and passages from the Mormon Bible that you say promote discrimination.

You have had plenty of tome to research and list those verses while loitering in the men's room.

I said it before and I will reiterate...
NEVER going to patronize Lassens. Not only did they make contributions to support discrimination, they requested donations from the public, AND untruthful about the circumstances and the individuals involved regarding their support. I used to really like to go to The Lakes to shop, dine, and relax. Just another reason to stimulate the economy elsewhere!

It is well known the Mormon bible contains anti gay and anti black BS that came to them in a delusion. No need to prove things intelligent people already know.

And the worst thing: they SOAK their customers with high high prices to pay for it.

A bunch of low IQ posts from both sides arguing something that has nothing to do with the story. What you all are over looking is.

“ Several employees who arrived at work Monday morning did not know the restaurant had closed.”

The brass closed the place and left workers out to dry without any notice, oh some get to go some other claim jumpers, if they want to travel that far, or move closer to those places, which not everyone can do.

Oh sure the landlord is getting the blame, but you going to tell me that the landlord and/or claim jumpers managers didn’t make the decision until Sunday night, (even then it was still claim jumpers responsibility to notify their works what was going on), I don’t think so, they knew this for a while and couldn’t even have the decency to give the workers a heads up, or warning.

To those that say the top take all the risks, I say HA!!!! workers also take risks when working some place.
