Authorities cancel lockdown near Moorpark City Hall

Two schools near Moorpark City Hall were locked down Thursday while deputies searched the area for a man who apparently made some threats and might have been armed, officials said.

Deputies locked down Walnut Canyon and Chaparral schools after getting a report about 12:25 p.m. about a man possibly armed and making threats, said Steven Kueny, Moorpark city manager.

Deputies said a campus supervisor at Walnut Canyon reported hearing voices coming from the open field below and behind the school. The campus supervisor heard the voices talk about shooting a gun and immediately reported this to officials at the school, authorities said. School officials notified the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, which locked down the schools.

Deputies searched the area with a helicopter and police dogs and later lifted the lockdowns after no one was found.
