The Brazos river here in Texas is so low, that if not for the ferral hogs wallowing thru it,it would not be running, but they are wallowing thru to eat everything they catch and mussels can not move fast enough to get away.iTIS ruff out there and i am having to move the babies b4 they are gobbled up:).
This last run i came around a bend. There was a huge hog,it was laying under the bank.i never saw it but they thought i did and in two jumps it cleared a 10-12' bank, freakin awesome moves:).They usually have a fear of us and once they start running they are gone. This one followed along the bank and i caught it sizing me up!
i went to hollering and chunked a rock up it's way.i guess i am going to have to start carrying my "pig sticker",sure hate to the water or whats in it stains my blade and will not come off:(.

Anybody watch Glass House last night? Almost just like Big Brother.
Have a good day everyone!

I must say I'm surprised it remained tag free for almost 2 weeks.

Afternoon all,
Pearler, good luck w/the pics, looking forward to them ...
Trix, what a PERFECT depiction of how dumb men can be. :)
Luvee, for me, laundry day ... and, as everyday now, sports sports sports, on TV -- Euro 2012 Soccer now, Cycling: Tour de Suisse in a few and then I suppose I'll watch that NBA Finals thing tonight ...
CC, slip-sliding, so fun ... as I recall, been awhile of course. :)
A good day everyone ...
Sarie writes:
And I had the impression that what security measures they had added would actually prevent the tagging ... oh well.
smacktalk writes:
What a waste of money to paint that thing. I thought it would be tagged the first day of a clean slate.
Is it legal to shoot on site if we see them tagging?
Sarie writes:
Smack, keeping that trestle or anything tag-free isn't worth THAT cost ... I know you weren't being serious. :)
OjaiGuy writes:
You can only shoot with a camera, although some tranquilizer darts would be good.
Here's another one, which we'll see more of since the early released will not likely find jobs in this economy. The interviewer will ask what they did in between jobs...for 5 years. Non-violent, yeah, right.

i have on this last run found, they were burying themselves,in the mud completely.i opened around 300 in the middle of july, one year and not one pearl.
i started watching and keeping this fact in my record books:).
They also can seperate their tendons from the shell to round rub the pearls and embed pearls in the socket and then re-attach the tendon to the shell.A fascinating creature, still have a few myths to disprove... reminds me of the time i found two of them fighting;).i did not pull them apart and took them home to a aquarium i had back then.Folks slow does not discribe the fighting mussel technique:).we,rib,i and the kids got burnt out watchin nothing happen:).second or third day i pulled them apart;).
oops,on the license?:).no iTIs yr. round, but it gits pretty tough in november,december,jan.... Starts to git warmer each month afte may and then end of september b-r-rrr.See you can only hand harvest in Texas.
i got hyperthermia, the first one pretty bad the other two i knew the signs;).got out and warmed up.The third, maybe second was when Rib had just started walking the banks as there were beds i had worked for years.i got the shiver/goosey and got out to roll in the johnson grass, dry.we would peel my wetsuit off and rub, roll the blood warm:).Well we was doin such when rib, city girl, seas a giant leech on my shoulder/back and Rib grabs a mesquite tree branch, from the ground and goes to wuppin on me wth that thorny branch.i had then shivers so bad i could only fall down and endure:).
Rib beat and stabbed that perch so bad it died;).
yep, monster leech turned out to B bait;).
true story.
oh and Rib's tellin it was not that big of a stick, matter of fact there was no stick,at all;)!!! she used her hand;).
Her true story:).
i guess it's really true, what they say 'bout the past:).

There is a season on feral hogs. It's 365 days a year (366 in Leap Years), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
These nasty critters are doing great damage across large parts of the country. They are omnivorous, and hence will eat darn near anything. They destroy fencing, deer feeders, and vegetation, and can wreak havoc on young wildlife. They breed astonishingly: A wildlife expert once said of them that if a sow has a litter of six, eight of them will survive. This was simply his way of stating how rapidly the nasty things reproduce.
They are smart, and therefore difficult to trap. Although they will move during daylight they do most of their damage at night. Increasing numbers of hunters down here will hunt them using night vision scopes and silenced rifles. And, of course, we are seeing increased use of hunts from helicopters, which really don't cut down that much on the numbers of the critters but are fun for the hunters... and lucrative for chopper owners.
One good thing: If they're killed while young and properly dressed and prepared, they're good to eat. Otherwise they are just pure, very large vermin with no redeeming qualities.
Finally, it is not a good idea to get between a 150-pound sow and her piglets. It's not as bad as agitating a momma bear with cubs, but it can ruin your whole day.
smacktalk writes:
The amount of damage a wild pig population creates depends to a significant degree on the availability and abundance of their natural food sources. Most important among them is the availability of mast. Only when these resources are depleted will the animals invade cultured crops and human habitations. Eighty percent and more of the boar diet consists of plant matter and not toads. You would certainly not decry the disappearance of an occasional rattlesnake, would you?
2. Boar rooting can under certain circumstances even be beneficial to the environment as long as it is not excessive.
3. Trapping, according to detailed studies and based on experience, can remove maybe 20 to 30 percent of a boar population. However, trapping will become less effective over time since the wild pigs learn how to avoid and defeat traps. In addition, the void created by animal removal will quickly be filled by newcomers.
4. Scientific experiments have established that active, vigorous and sustained hunting can reduce boar populations by up to 60 percent (40 to 60).
5. According to other studies approximately 75 percent of a wild pig populations must be removed permanently in order to prevent population growth, that is to keep it at a manageable level.
6. Australian wild pig eradicators using helicopter (sic) to eliminate wild pigs found that the animals soon learned to adapt to being hunted from helicopters. They adopted quickly a 'play dead' strategy when under attack from the brave men in their flying machines.
Helicopters were used in the eradication of wild pigs on Santa Cruz Island. The result? While the strategy initially proved successful to a certain degree, not all boar could be eliminated by helicopter use alone. A certain number of 'smart pigs' remained immune to helicopter attack. Boots on the ground were eventually required to get them.
7. Helicopter based wholesale slaughter of wild pigs will most likely only drive the survivors further into the most inaccessible terrain where traps, hunters and heroes in helicopters will find it exceedingly difficult to make a significant impact.
8. European and other foreign countries conducted very promising scientific studies on the use of contraceptives for the control of wild boar.
9. Oh, and I almost forgot, poisoning is out of the question for very obvious reasons.

i raised hogs as a kid on a ranch.carnivorus is putting it lightly.i have seen them eat their young or and the weaker of the pack. They will eat you if given a good chance to! i have seen ferrals and piglets right at the edge of town, trail goes to backdoor of vacavt house on hwy frontage.
They are not as afraid as they used to be.
i have noticed no snakes fewer frogs and lots of baby mussels just gone.
i carry a flare gun in the yak but when i go way back in the shallows of the river.i can only take the tub and it won't fit the flare gun,so looks like i will wear the pig sticker again.i sure hate to"(.water stains the blade.

Ours are also difficult to trap, are nasty things and do reproduce.

Re Cleveland ...
Although known or labeled as the poorest big city in the U.S., I've been there, once (twin was a dancer in a movie made there starring Frank Langella), and I didn't find it so bad ... in fact I loved the lush countryside surrounding it and I'm reading just now that this is a favorite place within the city: http://www.littleitalycleveland.com/.
Just thought I'd offset my earlier not-so-nice remark.

I will not because she knew and knows very little of him except that he was very nice and gentlemanly to her w/what little contact she had with him ... she was one of several dancers and she heard of no misbehavior on his part at all toward anyone on the set ... so there you go.
Plus, in that silly article I don't read anything about infidelity ...
Sarie writes:
Oh well OKC ... another close one.
Chatter writes:
Mercy, where did all that defensiveness come from?
From the reaction there must be much more to this story.
I can only imagine, but without your defensiveness I would not have thought she was that close to him, you only mentioned she was a dancer in a show.
Who would have figured I was touching on a sore spot?
Never-mind!

As we all know -- too well -- sex sells ... thus, perhaps an overly ambitious ghostwriter gone amuck, or something like that. And I do recall twin saying Langella had a great sense of humor. :)
