Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) is again taking part in the annual Feds Feed Families food drive, which runs through the end of August.
Last year, the base collected 3,830 pounds at 19 locations.
This year, there are 20 bright yellow bins scattered across NBVC Port Hueneme and NBVC Point Mugu. Some of the more prominent ones are at the Navy Exchanges and the commissary, the chapels, the galleys and the dental and medical clinic at Hueneme.
All non-perishables collected will go to Ventura County Food Share.
Feds Feed Families is a direct response to the “United We Serve Act” signed by President Obama in April 2009, calling upon all Americans to contribute to the nation’s economic recovery by serving in their communities.
This year, the Department of Defense has a goal of 1.5 million pounds. Navywide, the goal is 396,000 pounds.
