The Gas Company has secured a gas line that was ruptured in El Rio this afternoon.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes after a small precautionary evacuation.
The incident was first reported about 2:55 p.m. in the 2600 block of Balboa Street and Ventura County and Oxnard city firefighters responded.
The line was secured about three hours later, fire officials said.
When first responders arrived on scene, they found that a water line was also broken in the area.
The fire departments are staging with equipment as a precaution in case a fire does occur.
Five homes in the area were affected, but only three of them were occupied and were evacuated.
The broken water line is still under repair.
