Spartans' Nizdil wins high jump

A group of Rio Mesa athletes, competing as the Spartan Track Club, competed at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho, one of the top indoor meets events in the nation, with some of the best athletes from more than 20 states and Canada competing.

Junior high jumper Raegan Nizdil won her event with a clearance of 5 feet, 8 inches. It was a lifetime best, and ties Nizdil for the fifth best mark in the nation.

Senior Blake Selig placed fourth in the long jump at 22-5 inches and was sixth in his finals heat of the 60-meter dash at 7.14 seconds.

The Spartans' 4 x 400 relay team of Darion Zimmerman, Cameron Roach Drew Weisenberger and Selig turned in the fastest qualifying time of 3:30.34, but missed a chance to be the meet champion when it was disqualified for a passing zone violation.
