Day-use fees will be waived and a native tree will be planted Saturday during events marking the 80th anniversary of Carpinteria State Beach.
Located at the end of Palm Avenue in Carpinteria, the park features a mile of beach for swimming, surf fishing, tide pool exploring and camping.
The park is the result of vigorous campaigning by Carpinteria boosters during the 1920s, and of the purchase, in February 1932, by the State of California and Santa Barbara County of 21 acres east of Carpinteria creek for $106,000.
Observance of the anniversary will begin at 10 a.m. with the planting of a native tree near the entrance to the park. Sector Superintendent Eric Hjelstrom will address the crowd.
